first_imgBordeaux- French President has “pulverized the historical record of unpopularity for a president” says poll.According to a BVA poll for French magazine L’Express published on Monday, Francois Hollande’s approval rating fell to 26%, establishing a record of unpopularity for a president of the Fifth Republic.“Never in 32 years of statistics had a president fallen below 30% of approval,” says Gaël Sliman, Deputy Director General of the rating institute. Hollande is, however, not the only one to have lost the population’s support. Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault’s popularity is also very low. 18 months after Hollande’s election, the popular French mood regarding both men only increased ephemerally after the beginning of the operation in Mali last January.Only 14% of respondents believed that the policies pursued by the tandem of the executive is “effective”, while 84% thought the opposite. Only socialist sympathizers still support the President, 75% of them have a good opinion of his actions. 97% of the opposition’s followers, however, disapprove of his role. According to the rating institute, this disgrace is in part due to the “Leonarda case” and the controversy surrounding the televised speech the Head of State gave on the subject. He had offered the young Roma schoolgirl, who was deported to Kosovo with her family, the possibility to come back to France, but by herself. The Interior Minister, Manuel Valls, seems to be the only one not to suffer from the unpopularity of the executive. He continues to lead, with 58% of approval rating. The harshest blow to the majority is the Front National’s popularity. Indeed, the far right party is taking advantage of the President’s fall, scoring its highest popularity ever with 30%. Employment remains the priority for respondents, but taxation and immigration increased dramatically.© Morocco World News. All Rights Reserved.
